A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file, so there is more than one way to install it. The folders and commands below come from the Claude Code and Codex documentation and the skills CLI README. Check the entry's own README as well, since some skills need an API key or another tool before they run. To confirm a skill loaded, run /skills in Claude Code or Codex.

The open skills CLI from Vercel Labs installs a skill from a GitHub repo into the folder each agent expects. It asks which skills and which agents you want, and it installs for the current project unless you add the -g flag, which installs for your user account. Add --list to see what a repo contains before you install anything.

Copy the skill's folder, the one that holds SKILL.md, into ~/.claude/skills/ to use it in every project on your machine, or into .claude/skills/ in a repository to use it there and share it by committing it. Claude Code picks up changes to these folders during a session. If the folder did not exist when the session started, run /reload-skills.

Some repos publish a plugin marketplace, a .claude-plugin/marketplace.json file. Add it in Claude Code, then install a plugin from it with /plugin install plugin-name@marketplace-name. Plugins can bundle hooks and MCP servers along with skills, so read the details panel before you confirm.

Codex reads skills from .agents/skills in your working folder and its parent folders up to the repository root, and from $HOME/.agents/skills for every repository. Copy the skill's folder into one of them, or run $skill-installer inside Codex and ask it to install from the repo. Codex detects new skills automatically and needs a restart only if one does not appear.
The directory is deliberately narrow, so a skill has to meet a few plain rules to be listed. Here they are, along with what we do not do.

A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file: a short header that gives the skill a name and a description, followed by instructions in Markdown. Some skills add scripts or reference files. The agent reads only the name and description at first and loads the full instructions when your task matches. That makes a skill closer to a written procedure than to a single prompt. Whether it runs code depends on the skill: some are instructions only, others ship scripts.
MCP connects an agent to an outside service or tool, such as a database or a browser. A skill gives the agent know-how: what to do, in what order, and how to use the tools it already has. They work together, and some skills here lean on a model vendor's API, CLI or MCP server for the generation step. The source README of each entry says what it needs.
Claude Code reads ~/.claude/skills/ for your user account and .claude/skills/ inside a project. Codex reads .agents/skills in your working folder and up to the repository root, and $HOME/.agents/skills for your user account. The install section above has the steps for each, and the skills CLI can place a skill for either agent.
Often, yes. Both read the same kind of folder: a SKILL.md with a name and a description. Claude Code's documentation says its skills follow the open Agent Skills standard, and it adds extras of its own, such as control over who can invoke a skill. A skill that relies on those extras, or on tools and commands only one agent has, may need edits to work in the other. Each entry's detail page lists the agents its author says it supports.
Treat it like running code you did not write. A skill is a set of instructions your agent will follow, and it can ship scripts or ask for tool access. We have not audited any skill in this directory, and a high star count or a recent update does not show that a skill is safe. Open the SKILL.md and any scripts first, look at what it asks the agent to run, and keep API keys out of the skill folder. In Claude Code, check a skill's allowed-tools field before you run a skill from a repository you do not trust.

It is a directory, not a marketplace. Nothing is sold or hosted here, and every entry links to its source on GitHub.
Pencil0 is a separate product, and it is not a skill. It runs the pipeline for you in the browser: script, characters and scenes, shots, then a finished cut, with your confirmation at each stage. These skills are for people who run their own agent and want it to do part of that work. None of them is made or maintained by Pencil0.
