SC 01How it works

From one idea to a finished episode

A short drama is a series, so the workflow is built around a series. You move through six stages, and each one waits for your confirmation before the next begins.

  1. 01
    STEP 01

Start with an idea or a script

Type a one-line premise, describe the whole show ("an 80-episode drama about..."), or upload a finished script. An uploaded script is split into episodes automatically.

  2. 02
    STEP 02

    Plan the series

For a multi-episode show, the AI plans the whole series and writes the episodes in order. You can also ask for only the remaining episodes, a range of episodes, or a new episode at the end.

  3. 03
    STEP 03

    Write each episode script

Every episode gets a structured script that you edit by talking to the AI: tighten the opening, change a line of dialogue, move a reveal. Nothing moves on until you confirm it.

  4. 04
    STEP 04

    Cast characters, scenes and props

Characters, scenes and props are pulled out of the script and given reference images. Those images are what keep a face and a location recognisable from shot to shot.

  5. 05
    STEP 05

    Storyboard and shoot the shots

The episode is broken into shots, and each shot gets a black-and-white storyboard frame. You decide when to generate the video for each one, with the cast and scene references fed into the generation.

  6. 06
    STEP 06

    Cut the episode together

When the shots are ready, they are joined in order into a finished episode that you can watch in the studio. Then you move on to the next episode.

SC 02What it is built for

Built for series, not single clips

Most AI video tools are good at a single 10-second clip. A short drama fails somewhere else: across episodes, when the characters stop looking like themselves and the story forgets what it set up. These are the parts that address that.

  • Whole-series planning

Plan and write an entire series in one task, up to 120 episodes, instead of prompting episode by episode and hoping the plot holds together.

  • Character and world memory

While you write, the project keeps a story bible: the world, each character, the relationships between them and how each character stands in every episode. It is used when the next episode is written, and you can edit it yourself.

  • Vertical by default

Projects default to 9:16, the shape short dramas are watched in, so the frames you storyboard are the frames you ship.

  • Dialogue and sound built in

Shot videos are generated with native audio by default, including spoken dialogue and ambient sound, so you are not stitching a soundtrack on afterwards.

  • Every stage is editable

Revise the script by chat, adjust the story bible, rewrite a single shot, regenerate one clip. A change in one place does not force you to start the episode over.

  • Bring your own script

Already wrote the series? Upload the full script and it is split into episodes, then follows the same cast, storyboard and shot workflow.

SC 03Craft notes

What makes a short drama work

A generator gives you the machinery. The writing still decides whether anyone watches episode two. These are the habits worth building into every episode, and where the tool helps with them.

NOTE 01

Open on the hook

Short dramas are watched in a feed, so the first seconds of an episode have to explain the stakes without a warm-up: who wants what, and what is in the way. A slow establishing shot rarely survives that.

When you review an episode script in Pencil0, look at the first three or four lines of action and dialogue. If the conflict is not visible yet, ask the script agent to start later, in the middle of the problem. Because you edit by conversation, that is one request, not a rewrite.

NOTE 02

End every episode on a question

The job of an ending is to make the next tap feel necessary. A reveal, a reversal, a decision that cannot be undone: any of them works if the audience is left asking what happens next.

Planning the series before writing the episodes helps here. When the whole arc is on the table, you can see where the big turns land and make sure each episode hands something over to the following one, rather than just stopping.

NOTE 03

Keep each episode small and self-contained

An episode should do one thing: move one relationship, answer one question, raise one new one. In Pencil0 an episode is simply its shots joined in order, and each shot runs 4 to 15 seconds, so the length of an episode follows from how many shots you give it. A tight episode is a short list of shots that each earn their place.

Review the shot list before you spend credits on video. It is much cheaper to cut a shot on the storyboard than after it has been generated.

NOTE 04

Do not let the cast drift

Audiences forgive a modest budget. They do not forgive a lead who looks like a different person in episode nine. That is why the character reference images and the story bible matter more in a series than in a single clip.

Cast the characters properly once, approve their references, and let every later shot and episode build on them. The pricing page shows what each stage costs in credits, so you can decide where to spend them.

SC 05Questions

AI short drama generator: frequently asked questions

Q.01

How do I make an AI short drama?

Describe your idea, or upload a script, and Pencil0 plans the series and writes the episodes. For each episode you then confirm the script, create reference images for the characters and scenes, review the storyboard, generate the shots and let them be joined into the finished episode. Every stage waits for your approval.

Q.02

How many episodes can I generate?

A single series task can plan and write up to 120 episodes. You can also write only the remaining episodes, revise one episode, or add new episodes to a series later.

Q.03

Will characters look the same across episodes?

The character and scene reference images are fed into the generation of every shot, and the story bible keeps each character's details consistent as the episodes are written. AI video is not perfect, though: a shot can still drift, and when it does you regenerate that shot instead of redoing the episode.

Q.04

Does it generate dialogue and sound?

Yes. Shot videos are generated with native audio by default, including spoken dialogue and ambient sound.

Q.05

Can I upload my own script?

Yes. Upload a complete script and the system splits it into episodes, then it follows the same cast, storyboard and shot workflow as a script written in Pencil0.

Q.06

Is it free?

Pencil0 uses credits. New accounts receive 500 credits, valid for 30 days, and generating video draws them down by shot length and resolution. It is currently an invite-only beta, so you join the waitlist first. Pricing lists the plans.

Q.07

Can I edit the script before generating video?

Yes, and you are expected to. The script is the first stage and you can revise it by chatting with the AI as many times as you like. Video is only generated after you confirm the stages before it, shot by shot.
