SC 01Overview

What it does

The pipeline starts from a novel plus target parameters (episode count, episode length, genre) and runs stage by stage: novel-outline writes the adaptation outline, novel-characters writes character profiles with look and voice prompts, novel-art covers scenes and props, novel-script writes each episode as action beats and dialogue lines with an estimated runtime, and novel-storyboard cuts each episode into segments of up to 15 seconds with MiniMax H3 and Seedance prompts. character-refs does not need a novel: it renders reference images from a one-paragraph character description. The five pipeline skills each output JSON, Markdown and an HTML review report, and scripted quality gates such as hook placement, episode duration and shot length must pass before a stage counts as done. Needs Node 18+ and uses your agent session's model quota; only character-refs needs an image backend (ComfyUI with Qwen Image, Codex image generation, the OpenAI Images API or a custom command).

SC 02Install

How to install it

  • 01From the README

The install command quoted from the repository README.

    git clone https://github.com/eternityspring/shuohao-skills.git cd shuohao-skills ./scripts/install.sh
  • 02skills CLI, for Claude Code, Codex and others

The open skills CLI from Vercel Labs installs a skill from a GitHub repo into the folder each agent expects. It asks which skills and which agents you want, and it installs for the current project unless you add the -g flag, which installs for your user account. Add --list to see what a repo contains before you install anything.

  • 03Claude Code, skills folder

Copy the skill's folder, the one that holds SKILL.md, into ~/.claude/skills/ to use it in every project on your machine, or into .claude/skills/ in a repository to use it there and share it by committing it. Claude Code picks up changes to these folders during a session. If the folder did not exist when the session started, run /reload-skills.

  • 04Claude Code, plugin marketplace

Some repos publish a plugin marketplace, a .claude-plugin/marketplace.json file. Add it in Claude Code, then install a plugin from it with /plugin install plugin-name@marketplace-name. Plugins can bundle hooks and MCP servers along with skills, so read the details panel before you confirm.

    /plugin marketplace add eternityspring/shuohao-skills
  • 05Codex, skills folder or $skill-installer

Codex reads skills from .agents/skills in your working folder and its parent folders up to the repository root, and from $HOME/.agents/skills for every repository. Copy the skill's folder into one of them, or run $skill-installer inside Codex and ask it to install from the repo. Codex detects new skills automatically and needs a restart only if one does not appear.

The first command is quoted from the author's README. The others are the standard ways to install a skill from a GitHub repository. They are templates and may not apply here, for example if the repo has no plugin marketplace, so follow the README first.

SC 03Guide

How to get the most from it

Good for

  • Adapting a novel into an AI short drama while keeping each stage's output as reviewable files (JSON, Markdown and an HTML report) that feed the next stage.
  • Auditing an existing outline against the quality gates before you start writing scripts.
  • Writing per-segment video prompts for MiniMax H3 or Seedance, with cut timestamps derived from the storyboard structure.
  • Generating a consistent set of character reference images from a short description, including for original stories with no source novel.

Watch out for

  • Needs Node 18+ and uses your agent session's model quota. Only character-refs needs an image backend: your own ComfyUI (Qwen Image), Codex built-in image generation (draws on a ChatGPT subscription), an OpenAI Images API key (pay as you go) or a custom command.
  • Apart from character-refs, nothing here renders images or video. The art and storyboard stages hand off prompts and reference lists, so storyboard frames and clips have to come from downstream tools.
  • Skill instructions and default reports are in Chinese, and the report interface switches to English with --lang en. Character, scene and voice prompts are written in English, storyboard frame prompts in Chinese. The README says it has only been verified on macOS with Node 24.

Typical workflow

01Step
Run the repository's install script to symlink the skills into your Claude Code and/or Codex skills folders.
02Step
Give novel-outline the novel, the episode count and length, and the genre; confirm the skeleton (which storylines are cut, which characters are merged, where the big payoff lands) before it writes the episode synopses.
03Step
Run the validator, fix any failed quality gate and open the HTML report.
04Step
Build characters, scenes and props with novel-characters and novel-art, seeded from outline.json, and write the scene-and-beat script with novel-script; these three can be revised against each other.
05Step
Cut the episodes with novel-storyboard to get segments, cuts and H3 or Seedance prompts; use character-refs to render character reference images where needed.
06Step
Export the production pack and hand the prompts and reference images to your video model.
