SC 01Overview

What it does

You give the agent your media and a plain-language editing request, and it writes a Python script on top of a bundled wrapper that generates a draft in JianYing Pro's drafts folder. The script can import clips and music, add text and subtitles aligned to generated narration, apply effects, transitions and keyframes, record the screen with automatic zoom, and turn a storyboard JSON into a commentary video. Draft generation works on Windows and macOS, while automatic MP4 export relies on Windows UI automation, so on macOS you export from JianYing yourself. It needs Python with the repo's requirements and the desktop JianYing Pro app; international CapCut and the phone app are not supported.

SC 02Install

How to install it

  • 01From the README

The install command quoted from the repository README.

    git clone https://github.com/luoluoluo22/jianying-editor-skill.git .claude/skills/jianying-editor
  • 02skills CLI, for Claude Code, Codex and others

The open skills CLI from Vercel Labs installs a skill from a GitHub repo into the folder each agent expects. It asks which skills and which agents you want, and it installs for the current project unless you add the -g flag, which installs for your user account. Add --list to see what a repo contains before you install anything.

  • 03Claude Code, skills folder

Copy the skill's folder, the one that holds SKILL.md, into ~/.claude/skills/ to use it in every project on your machine, or into .claude/skills/ in a repository to use it there and share it by committing it. Claude Code picks up changes to these folders during a session. If the folder did not exist when the session started, run /reload-skills.

  • 04Claude Code, plugin marketplace

Some repos publish a plugin marketplace, a .claude-plugin/marketplace.json file. Add it in Claude Code, then install a plugin from it with /plugin install plugin-name@marketplace-name. Plugins can bundle hooks and MCP servers along with skills, so read the details panel before you confirm.

    /plugin marketplace add luoluoluo22/jianying-editor-skill
  • 05Codex, skills folder or $skill-installer

Codex reads skills from .agents/skills in your working folder and its parent folders up to the repository root, and from $HOME/.agents/skills for every repository. Copy the skill's folder into one of them, or run $skill-installer inside Codex and ask it to install from the repo. Codex detects new skills automatically and needs a restart only if one does not appear.

The first command is quoted from the author's README. The others are the standard ways to install a skill from a GitHub repository. They are templates and may not apply here, for example if the repo has no plugin marketplace, so follow the README first.

SC 03Guide

How to get the most from it

Good for

  • Assembling the final timeline in JianYing once clips are generated elsewhere, with narration, subtitles and music added by script.
  • Making narrated or commentary-style videos from a script or a storyboard JSON without laying out the timeline by hand.
  • Recording software walkthroughs with automatic zoom on clicks and dropping them straight into a draft.
  • Editors who already cut in JianYing and want the agent to build a first draft they then refine manually.

Watch out for

  • Only the China-market JianYing Pro desktop app is supported; international CapCut and the phone app are not.
  • Automatic MP4 export uses Windows UI automation and is steadiest on JianYing 5.9 or older; on macOS the draft is generated for you and exported by hand.
  • Real-time JianYing features such as smart cutout, beautify and speech-recognition captions cannot be driven from code, and web-to-video capture also needs Playwright's Chromium.

Typical workflow

01Step
Clone the repo into your agent's skills folder (for Claude Code, .claude/skills/jianying-editor), install the Python requirements, and run playwright install chromium if you want web-to-video.
02Step
Tell the agent what to make and where the media lives, for example a folder of clips plus a narration script; it detects your JianYing drafts folder or asks you for the path if detection fails.
03Step
The agent writes an editing script in your project folder, not inside the skill folder, that creates the project, imports media, adds narrated subtitles, music, text and effects, then saves.
04Step
Restart JianYing or reopen an old draft so the new draft shows up, then review the timeline.
05Step
Export the video: on Windows the bundled exporter can export the MP4, on macOS export from JianYing yourself.
