REC00:00:00:00Short films, made shot by shot

AI Movie Maker

Most AI video tools give you one clip. Pencil0 works the way a small film production does: a script, a cast, a storyboard, a shot list, then every shot filmed and cut together into one finished short film.

SC 01How it works

How a film gets made here

Each step is a real stage of the project, and each one waits for you to confirm it before the next begins. That is how you keep control of a film made from many generated pieces.

  1. 01
    STEP 01

Bring a story idea or a finished script

Describe the film in a sentence or a paragraph, or upload a complete script you have already written. Either way, you end up with a structured script in the studio.

  2. 02
    STEP 02

    Shape the script by conversation

Read it, then revise it by talking to the AI: tighten the opening, rewrite a scene, change the ending. The script is cheap to change, which is why you should spend your time here first.

  3. 03
    STEP 03

Build the cast, locations and props

The characters, scenes and props in your script are extracted and given reference images, which you can generate or replace with your own uploads. These images are what keep a person or a place recognisable from shot to shot.

  4. 04
    STEP 04

Break the film into shots and storyboard them

The script is split into shots with their action, dialogue and camera movement, and each shot gets a black-and-white storyboard frame. You review the plan before any video is generated.

  5. 05
    STEP 05

    Generate each shot

You choose when to generate the video for each shot. The cast and location references go into the generation, and the clip comes back with sound: dialogue and ambient audio.

  6. 06
    STEP 06

    Assemble the final cut

When the shots are ready, they are joined in order into the finished film, which you can watch in the studio.

SC 02What it is built for

A film, not a clip

The difference between a clip and a film is everything that has to stay the same across many shots. These are the parts of Pencil0 that deal with that.

  • Start from an idea or a script

If you only have a premise, the AI writes the script. If you already have one, upload it and go straight to casting and shots.

  • A storyboard for every shot

Every shot has a rough black-and-white storyboard frame, so you can check composition and action before you spend credits on video. See AI storyboard generator for what a frame contains.

  • A consistent cast

Character and scene reference images are fed into every shot they appear in. AI video still drifts sometimes, and when a shot does you regenerate that shot. The details are on the consistent character AI page.

  • Sound generated with the picture

Shot videos are generated with native audio by default, including spoken dialogue and ambient sound, rather than as silent clips you dub afterwards.

  • The final cut is assembled for you

Finished shots are joined in order into one film. You do not export a pile of clips and cut them yourself, though you decide which shots are ready.

  • Confirmation at every stage

Nothing runs on its own from script to final cut. You approve the script, the cast, the shot list and each shot, so a mistake is caught at the cheapest stage.

SC 03A practical guide

How to make a movie with AI, step by step

The tool does the generating, but the order you work in matters as much as the tool. This is the workflow that wastes the fewest credits.

NOTE 01

Write the film as a list of moments

A shot in Pencil0 runs 4 to 15 seconds, so a film is a sequence of short moments. Write with that in mind: a scene is several shots, each doing one thing, such as a character walking in, a reaction, a line of dialogue, a detail on a table.

You do not have to write shots yourself. The AI splits the script into shots. But a script written as clear, visual action splits far better than one written as internal monologue.

NOTE 02

Keep dialogue short

Each shot has to fit its spoken lines into at most 15 seconds, so long speeches are broken up across shots. Short exchanges and reactions tend to work better than monologues, and silence is a legitimate choice in a short film.

When you review the script, listen for lines that can be shorter. Cutting a sentence in the script is far cheaper than regenerating a shot because the speaker ran out of time.

NOTE 03

Cast before you shoot

Generate or upload the reference images for your characters and locations and approve them before any video exists. A face you accepted once is a face every later shot can refer back to.

If you are unhappy with a reference, fix it here. Changing a character after the shots exist means regenerating the shots.

NOTE 04

Read the storyboard, then shoot the important shots first

The storyboard frames let you check framing and action cheaply. Once they look right, generate the shots that carry the film, such as the opening and the key emotional beats, before the filler. If those work, you know the look holds before you commit to the rest.

You can pick the video model for each shot. Pricing depends on the shot length and resolution, and the pricing page lists the details.

NOTE 05

Regenerate, then assemble

Some shots will not come out as you intended. Regenerate those individually instead of redoing the film. When every shot is where you want it, the final cut is assembled by joining them in order.

A film made this way is a single-episode project: one script, one set of shots, one cut. If your story wants more than one film, the same studio handles a multi-episode series, as described on the AI series generator page.

SC 05Questions

AI movie maker: frequently asked questions

Q.01

Can AI make a full movie?

Pencil0 takes a story from script to storyboard to shot videos with sound, then joins the shots into one finished film. The film is made of many short shots that you review and regenerate as needed. It is a way to make short films, and you stay in control of each stage rather than receiving a finished feature.

Q.02

How long can the film be?

The length follows from the number of shots. Each shot runs 4 to 15 seconds, and the film is the shots joined in order. A longer film means more shots, and more credits.

Q.03

Can I start from my own script?

Yes. Upload a complete script and it becomes the structured script in the studio. From there you cast the characters, break the film into shots and generate the video the same way as a script written with the AI.

Q.04

Which AI video models are used?

Seedance 2 Fast, Seedance 2, Seedance 2.5, MiniMax Hailuo H3 and Kling 3.0 Turbo. You can choose the model for each shot. The models and their credit prices can change over time, so check pricing.

Q.05

Can I use the videos commercially?

You own the copyright of the videos you generate and may use them commercially, subject to the licence terms of the models you choose. Read the terms for the full conditions.

Q.06

Is there a free trial?

Pencil0 is credit-based. New accounts receive 500 credits, valid for 30 days, and video generation draws them down by shot length and resolution. It is currently an invite-only beta, so you join the waitlist first.
