SC 01Overview

What it does

Each skill documents one ElevenLabs API with Python, JavaScript and CLI examples the agent can adapt: text-to-speech for narration, Scribe v2 transcripts with word timestamps, music and sound effects from text prompts, voice conversion, noise removal, and project-based dubbing into other languages. You supply a script, a recording or a video file and get audio files or transcripts back. It calls the hosted ElevenLabs API, so it needs an API key and usage counts against your ElevenLabs plan. The repo also holds skills for voice agents and key setup, which are not video-specific.

Included skills

  • text-to-speech
  • speech-to-text

SC 02Install

How to install it

  • 01From the README

The install command quoted from the repository README.

    npx skills add elevenlabs/skills
  • 02Claude Code, skills folder

Copy the skill's folder, the one that holds SKILL.md, into ~/.claude/skills/ to use it in every project on your machine, or into .claude/skills/ in a repository to use it there and share it by committing it. Claude Code picks up changes to these folders during a session. If the folder did not exist when the session started, run /reload-skills.

  • 03Claude Code, plugin marketplace

Some repos publish a plugin marketplace, a .claude-plugin/marketplace.json file. Add it in Claude Code, then install a plugin from it with /plugin install plugin-name@marketplace-name. Plugins can bundle hooks and MCP servers along with skills, so read the details panel before you confirm.

    /plugin marketplace add elevenlabs/skills
  • 04Codex, skills folder or $skill-installer

Codex reads skills from .agents/skills in your working folder and its parent folders up to the repository root, and from $HOME/.agents/skills for every repository. Copy the skill's folder into one of them, or run $skill-installer inside Codex and ask it to install from the repo. Codex detects new skills automatically and needs a restart only if one does not appear.

The first command is quoted from the author's README. The others are the standard ways to install a skill from a GitHub repository. They are templates and may not apply here, for example if the repo has no plugin marketplace, so follow the README first.

SC 03Guide

How to get the most from it

Good for

  • Adding narration or character lines to a finished script, with the voice and model you choose.
  • Scoring a clip: background music from a text prompt or from the video itself, plus ambience and impact sounds.
  • Dubbing a finished video into other languages while keeping the original speakers' voices; what you download is the dubbed audio track.
  • Getting a transcript with word-level timestamps for subtitles or for cutting to spoken lines, and cleaning noisy dialogue first.

Watch out for

  • You need an ElevenLabs account and an ELEVENLABS_API_KEY; generation usage is billed to that account, and some features depend on the plan (dubbing transcript editing and regeneration are enterprise-only, and higher-bitrate outputs need higher tiers).
  • These skills only handle audio. They do not generate or edit video, so pair them with a video generation or editing skill.
  • Music prompts cannot name specific artists or copyrighted lyrics, and the voice changer takes about 5 minutes or 50 MB per request and cannot clone a new voice.

Typical workflow

01Step
Install with npx skills add elevenlabs/skills and set ELEVENLABS_API_KEY (the setup-api-key skill in the same repo walks through getting a key).
02Step
Ask the agent for narration: it writes the text-to-speech call with the voice and model you pick and saves an audio file.
03Step
For a score, generate music from a text prompt or from the clip itself, then add sound effects for specific moments.
04Step
For existing footage, run speech-to-text to get word timestamps, and run the voice isolator first if the dialogue is noisy.
05Step
To localize, create a dubbing project, add one target language at a time and download each dubbed audio track.
06Step
Bring the generated audio and transcripts into your editing tool or code-built timeline.
